PHARMAPURE

High Purity water purification system

SPECIFICATION

CHEMPHARMA Ltd 2022

Pharmapure water system general parameters:

Quality:

Pharmapure  is a compact 60 -250 litres/hour water purification system and able to produce high purity water both from chemical and microbiological point of view. Additionally produced water can be qualified according to USP „Purified Water”, and Ph.Eur „Aqua Purificata” descriptions.

Major parameters of product water:

Flow rate: 60-250 litres/hour

Conductivity: 0.06-1 µS

Resistivity: 1-15 MegOhm.cm

TOC: < 150 ppb typically

Microorganisms: < 50 c.f.u./ml typically

Endotoxins: < 0.25 Eu/ml

Technology:

Pharmapue compact water system includes the following  technologies in queue:

   a. Pretreatment

  • Based on general principles the pretreatment includes the following steps:

– Mechanical filtration 5 µm (can be modified in case of bad particle content)

Softener  for soft water and continuous operation.

Soft water is preferable for RO membranes, and an absolute requirement for EDI technology in the water system.

– Active carbon adsorbtion,

RO membranes and EDI modules are very sensitive for free chlorine in water.  Active carbon cartridge remove free chlorine.  Can be substituted by chemial dosaging, if customer QA does not allow AC as a microbiology risk.

If tap water has high Fe, Mg, NH3 content, other column technologies has to be applied. (only recommended in larger systems)

   b. Reverse Osmosis (RO)

Reverse osmosis based on ionic rejection of a semipermeable membrane(polyamide, polysulphone), where additional pressure applied by a booster pump. Reverse osmosis is very effective to remove most part of many different types of decontaminations:

ionic rejection:         98-99% (slowly decreasing during RO membrane lifetime)

bacterial rejection:  99%

colloids:  99%

dissolved gases:       95% in average (except free CO2)

Permeate water as a product water after the membrane has low ionic content (conductivity), that depends on feed water conductivity.  It can differ between 2-20 µS.

  c. Degassing membrane:

Free CO2 of permeate RO water can be highly depending on tap water quality. EDI technology is very sensitive for certain level of CO2 (≥ 10 ppm). EDI techonology is expensive, but work on a very long time period, and for the safe stable operation it needs a degassed water.

The built-in high-surface hydrophobic degassing membrane removes the 99% of CO2 and O2 from RO permeate water.

  d. Electro-De-Ionization (EDI)

The innovative, economical, environment friendly EDI technology based on – so called – electrodialysis. The module’s feed water is the RO permeate water. The module includes channels, those have ion-selective membranes on both side of channels.

Channel includes high quality mixed-bed ion-exchange resin. Electric current on both side of module continuously regenerates the resin, and the low ionic content water, and high ionic content water are separated at the end in two phases (product water, and concentrate water)

   e. UV lamp (option)

Germicidal action on 254 nm succesfully degrades of bacterial contamination, and provide additional effectiveness for biological purity.

System properties:

PLC Control, measurement circuits:

System has an integrated color touch panel screen. Software developed for this appearance and intuitive handling.

Quality parameters:

  • Feed water conductivity, RO permeate conductivity, product water (EDI) conductivity, system ionic rejection, product water temperature, feed water pressure, RO concentrate pressure, product water flow rate.

Other operational parameters:

  • EDI module voltage and current, time control of processes.   A legutóbbi kikapcsolás óta eltelt idő.

Functional statuses:

  • Flush modes of RO membrane, Flush mode of EDI module, Production, Standby.

Service menu under password protection:

  • Setpoints for all quality parameters.
  • Product water flow rate adjustment (RO and EDI permeate-concentrate rate modification)
  • ALERT and ALARM messages for setpoints values of quality parameters.
  • Time programming of functional statuses.

Buffer tank level switches

  • three different contact type for TANK FULL, 50% level, and low level.

System’s PLC and softvare can be connected to industrial BMS.

System can be validated and has validation documentations.

Permeate / concentrate rate of RO membrane and EDI module:

Within a certain range, the system flow rate can be adjusted by three-way valves on RO and EDI modules.  If customer needs more water, system can be scaled for the desired value.

At 60 litres/hour product water capacity, the system uses max 150 litres/hour total feed water.  (Concentrate water goes to drain from both RO and EDI modules)

 Environmental conditions:

System installation needs the following inputs and outputs

feed water: min 2.5 bar pressure

Drain connection: min 800 litres/hour (depending on system capacity)

Electrical requirements: 3x230V, 16A
